Good Luck, Mr. Gorsky!
Yesterday was a sad day. I stepped outside of my office at 4:55 Eastern Time and watched the Space Shuttle Discovery rocket across a blue sky dotted with clouds. It was one of the last time I would ever have that privilege.
Having grown up in Central Florida, I had probably done this same sort of thing a hundred times. We used to get breaks from class to step outside and watch this little orange light trail a pillar of smoke, tracing the Florida sky until it vanished. Despite having experienced it so many times, and ultimately taking it for granted for so many years, today’s launch felt remarkably different and unexpectedly melancholy.
